<p>
The <a href="http://www.bls.gov/">BLS</a> reported that <strong>the unemployment rate for Milwaukee fell 0.3 percentage points in December 2011 to 7.6%</strong>.  For the same month, the metro unemployment rate was 0.5 percentage points higher than the Wisconsin rate.

 The unemployment rate in Milwaukee peaked in December 2009 at 9.6% and is now 2.0 percentage points lower. 
 From a post peak low of 7.6% in April 2011, the unemployment rate has now grown by 0.0 percentage points.

 The number of people unemployed in Milwaukee peaked in January 2010 at 76,278. There are now 15,036 fewer people unemployed in the metropolitan area. 
 From a recent trough of 61,080 in April 2011, the number of unemployed has now grown by 162.
